“In the Flow: Meditations on Water”

This photographic series is a quiet meditation on water in its many forms—from the invisible mist in the air to the endless reach of the sea. Through the lens, I traced water’s journey as it gathered in still ponds, drifted through humid air, and emerged from muddy depths as lotus blossoms.

At the heart of my work are two enduring symbols: the lotus flower and water in motion.

The lotus, rising through calm, murky waters, speaks to renewal, clarity, and inner strength. Its bloom—pure and open—emerges not in spite of the depths, but because of them. It reflects the quiet, transformative presence of water in its most contemplative state.

Water in motion—whether a flowing stream, falling rain, or the shifting tide—embodies release, change, and surrender. It moves with purpose yet without resistance, a reminder of the natural rhythms that shape all life.

Water, in all its forms, serves as a metaphor for the cycles we each pass through: stillness and motion, emergence and release, clarity and uncertainty. In capturing these moments, I sought not only to show what water looks like, but to evoke how it feels—fluid, grounding, and alive.

Each image offers an invitation to slow down and enter that feeling: to sit with a lotus and sense the stillness at its base, or to witness water’s subtle movements and reflect on our own.

When the pandemic hit and the world constricted, Kayako looked up, and became captivated by the patterns she saw. In any given moment, the sky's colors and shapes paint a unique picture. It's a picture that our friends and families see at the same time—even during a pandemic when we can't see each other. Looking up, then, has been a form of connection for Kayako, bringing her close to her loved ones and giving her strength.
